What would 3,000 guitarists rocking Purple Haze sound like?
We may soon find out.
A California Hendrix scholar is organizing an effort to get 3,000 guitar players to play Jimi Hendrix' classic track on October 25th, 2009 at West Fest, an event commemorating the 40th anniversary of Woodstock.
Steve Roby, who teaches a Jimi Hendrix course at College of Marin and who is the author of a book on Hendrix, hopes to break the Guinness record for largest guitar ensemble. According to Roby, 1,800 electric and acoustic guitarists have already signed up.
If you want to take part, Roby has put a Purple Haze audio lession, video and the arrangement up on his site.
A rehearsal is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Phoenix Theater in Petaluma.
