In case you werent aware there's been a quiet revolution going on in the area of live sound. With so many consoles now completely digital with full recall and automation to ensure the most reliable live reproduction as well as cutting down hugely on shipping weight for the gear needed - have you ever seen the size and weight of a long 48 pair analog multicore? Now CAT5 or networking cable is commonly used in place, which can be left in the venue. Such cable is what the Roland Systems Group's REAC digital multicore and V-Mixers use.

But with all these closed digital systems it means that you have had to stick with a single manufacturer to ensure compatibility. Roland have now introduced  the S-MADI - a MADI (up to 64 channels of digital audio, commonly used by other live desk manufacturers) to REAC -their own format conversion.

So now if you have a Digico or other FOH (front of house) or monitor desk, you can hook up the Roland system and split off the signal digitally to enable separate monitor mixes or live recordings or whatever you desire without the need to expensive transformer audio splits and massive runs of heavy cable.
