Cheating Using Hybrid Drums Samples Plus Live Cymbals

SonicTALK regular and production whiz, Yoad Nevo has released a video on his channel with a process to enhance sampled programmed drums with recorded cymbals. He calls it cheating - but who cares - if it sounds good?

The video notes:

In this video, I break down my hybrid drum technique, combining real drums with digital processing to get the best of both worlds. I'll take you inside my studio, show my drum recording setup, and explain my approach to capturing, layering, and enhancing drum sounds to create a dynamic, polished drum track.

Why use hybrid drums?

• You get the natural feel and dynamics of live drums
• You get the precision and flexibility of samples.
• You have full creative control over your sound For me, it's not about keeping things "pure"--it's about what works best for the song.

Whether you're recording real drums or working with samples, this approach can help you craft a unique and powerful drum sound.

We've shot a few excellent videos with Yoad for Sonicstate including this excellent one on breaking down a mix and hope to be doing some more soon, stay tuned...
