A Chiptune Version of Thriller That Doesnt Suck

I'll confess that I generally have an aversion to chiptunes of any kind - I think it stems from an overall hatred of those cheap birthday cards that play tunes through tinny speakers. It seems appalling to me that the creative process is distilled down into those grating tones. Maybe something happened in my childhood that hasn't been worked out yet, I dunno..

However, this version of Michael Jackson's Thriller performed at the Lo-bit Playground back in 2009, could help with my aversion therapy.

Performed by Saitone, a Japanese artist who's released three albums and countless remixes and covers - its a really inventive and high energy track - I especially like the way he uses modulated single notes to create the impression of chord progressions.

Somehow the fact that it is recorded in a room via camera mic also helps, it takes the edge off the harsher chip tune sounds.

Whats your favourite chiptune? I clearly need educating..
