LOVE Synthesizers Ships First Love

LOVE Synthesizers has announcesd the official launch of FIRST LOVE, the company's standalone exploratory FM synthesizer and recipient of the Best Innovation Award at Superbooth 2024. Following an initial pre-order period, FIRST LOVE is now shipping and available to musicians and sonic explorers in the United States, European Union and United Kingdom through its channel of authorized retailers.  Here's more details direct from the company...

FIRST LOVE was created to make electronic music creation more inclusive, with a revolutionary, touch-sensitive visual interface, a powerful FM synth engine, and an attractive price point that will appeal to complete beginners and seasoned synthesists alike. The new synthesizer pairs a highly responsive touchscreen with tactile knobs and buttons, making wave morphing and FM synthesis intuitive without sacrificing depth.

LOVE at first sight and sound
"The first few minutes you spend with an instrument matter," said Kari Halldorsson, founder of LOVE Synthesizers. "We wanted someone who has never touched a synthesizer to feel comfortable experimenting and exploring on their own. This ultimately led us towards designing an interface that doesn't use words or numbers, where you can see the sound changing as you shape it. After more than three years of development, it's exciting to put FIRST LOVE into people's hands."

Combining a powerful FM synth engine with a variety of multi-timbral and polyphonic sound sources, modulation, sequencing, and looping capabilities, FIRST LOVE opens an unlimited treasure trove of creative possibilities for both newcomers and experienced synthesists. Its interface and tactile form factor was designed from the ground up to be learned and played without language, number readouts or prior music theory - so that curiosity, instead of a heavy-handed manual, is the shortest route to creativity.

A revolutionary interface

"Our goal in creating FIRST LOVE was to make creative synthesis more immediate, expressive and inspiring," says Markus Bjarnason, Co-founder and Creative Director of LOVE Synthesizers. "This instrument is both approachable and deep, simple and sonically complex. Users can spend time exploring simple, ambient waveforms or delve into more complex rhythmic, multi-voice arrangements."

With its colorful, yet compact form factor and large LED display, users are invited to push and drag the sounds and notes on the highly detailed, colorful screen. The interface provides immediate visual and audio feedback, much as they would on a physical instrument. Users are able to assign physical controls, draw their own routing paths, and draw illustrations to save presets.

Deep enough for seasoned synthesists
FIRST LOVE offers multi-timbral and polyphonic voices, complex wave shaping, morphing envelopes, effects and extensive modulation. It features a four-part multitimbral engine with polyphonic and monophonic operation, and pressure-sensitive performance pads with velocity and aftertouch. Meanwhile, MIDI, sync and USB connectivity enable FIRST LOVE to exist in almost any synth or instrument ecosystem.

Built-in scale creation and microtonal tuning let players define their own tonal worlds. "No other hardware I know of that lets you tune your own microtonal scales in such a tactile, fast and intuitive way," said musician and film composer Ulfur Hansson.

Built for flow, wherever you are
FIRST LOVE is an exploratory synthesizer that rewards fearless curiosity. Portable and fully standalone, it includes everything needed to make music in a single instrument, with built-in speakers and an optional battery, so musicians can play comfortably on a couch, on the road or on a beach. It is designed to keep the music going and the interface fast and responsive, so players can stay in creative flow. Live looping and riff sequencing let players build full pieces without a computer, and the instrument keeps playing while they work, so ideas are never interrupted. The interface is built to be learned by feel and by ear, welcoming first-time synthesizer users while leaving virtually unlimited room for exploration.
