Two Limited-Edition EarthQuaker Pedals

US Plumes Jr. and Blumes Jr. MOSFET Mod feature a new MOSFET clipping mode      29/10/26

EarthQuaker Devices has announced two new limited-edition pedals--Plumes Jr MOSFET Mod Small Signal Shredder and Blumes Jr MOSFET Mod Low Signal Shredder. Here's the details direct from the company...

Like the original, full-scale designs, these two compact pedals offer tube-like overdrive with three distinct clipping voices. However, they feature a key distinction. The third clipping mode (which is the most "screamer"-style setting from the standard Plumes and Blumes) has been swapped with a new MOSFET clipping mode that produces a harmonically rich, focused overdrive with enhanced low end and a dynamic response similar to a modern high-gain tube amp.

EarthQuaker released the original Plumes Small Signal Shredder seven years ago as an all-analog update to a classic overdrive circuit. In the years since, the company has sold nearly 70,000 units, making it a staple on pedalboards worldwide. By offering exceptional flexibility at an accessible price point, the pedal elevated the EarthQuaker Devices brand and paved the way for its bass-friendly sibling--Blumes Low Signal Shredder--in 2024.

It's important to note that Plumes Jr and Blumes Jr are not replacing the standard production models. The Plumes and Blumes we've known and loved for years aren't going anywhere. These new mini-mods are strictly limited runs, designed for players looking to optimize pedalboard space and explore an alternate clipping architecture.

"I thought it would be cool to further differentiate these variants from the stock versions," EarthQuaker Devices Founder and President Jamie Stillman explained. "The MOSFET Mod retains a little of the classic character of the original Mode 3, but adds more low end crunch and sustain for those looking for a heavier option."

While the clipping modes on the original pedals were simply numbered 1, 2, and 3, the Jr MOSFET Mods introduce a revised nomenclature with L, N, and M settings.

Mode M unleashes MOSFET clipping, delivering a commanding, tight, and focused overdrive rich in harmonics, perfect for palm muting, improved low-end response, and achieving the articulate bite of a modern high-gain tube amp.

The remaining two modes are true to the standard-issue circuits. Mode L utilizes a pair of light-emitting diodes for symmetrical clipping that produces a crunchy, compressed, and punchy tone, while Mode N bypasses the soft-clipping diodes completely for pure OpAmp drive, serving as an exceptional clean boost or a powerful tool to push an already overdriven amplifier straight into breakup.

"Mode L has more of a traditional mid-heavy crunch typically found in a classic Marshall amp and Mode N is great for a clean boost or pushing a tube amp into overdrive," Stillman adds. "Mode M is great for players who want a tighter chunky low end heavy tone that's great for palm muting."

For guitarists, Plumes Jr provides incredible versatility across its entire range. The low end remains big and clear, while the high end stays bright and cutting without sacrificing essential midrange punch.

Meanwhile, over in bass country, Blumes Jr takes that core circuit, doubles the gain, and deepens the bass response to preserve low-end clarity and help bassists cut through any mix.
Whether players are seeking a fresh take on a beloved circuit, hoping to reclaim some pedalboard real estate, or looking for an exclusive collector's run, both devices deliver maximum impact in a compact footprint.

Plumes Jr MOSFET Mod is limited to 2,000 units and Blumes Jr MOSFET Mod is limited to 1,000. Both pedals are available now at authorized dealers worldwide.

Each and every Plumes Jr and Blumes Jr is built one at a time by delightful little hands in Akron, Ohio--the charred, black heart in the heart of it all.
