Once again Trash Theory is here with another wonderfuly presented and researched episode of New British Canon. This time floating all our boats with a take on Born Slippy Nuxx, a track which will no doubt evoke images and memories of 90s hedonism, house parties and euphoric drunken nights out. The video explores the journey of Karl Hyde and Rick Smith, among some of their fellow journeymen, starting out as Freur, and eventually becoming Underworld (mark 1), after the name of a film they soundtracked. The very fact that Born Slippy Nuxx was one of their B-Sides is just mind blowing, considering how much impact it had....
Here's more from the video...
90s British music often gets cropped down to merely Union Jack guitars and Girl Power. But the whole decade buzzed with an undercurrent of revolutionary dance music; their anthems just as important as "Girls & Boys", "Wonderwall" and "Wannabe". Underworld were a vital part of this crossover moment. Having spent their 80s on false starts, now their cinematic thumping techno was something that people who had never been to a rave could get behind, unwittingly giving the lager lads a soundtrack to their excess. Sometimes all you need are some transcendent reverbed chords and a moment of shout along brilliance to unite a nation.
This Is New British Canon, and this is the story of "Born Slippy (Nuxx)". #underworld #techno #musicdocumentary
