Crazy Tube Circuits has introduced Rapture, a new amp-style overdrive pedal that brings the complete drive section of their Triptychon into a dedicated standalone format, with expanded control over gain, clipping and playing response. Here's the details in their own words...
Following repeated requests from players, dealers and friends of Crazy Tube Circuits to make Triptychon's drive section available on its own, Rapture captures the sound and feel of a classic tube amplifier operating at its sweet spot -- with natural compression, harmonic richness, touch sensitivity and the gradual transition from clean to breakup.
Rather than imposing a fixed sonic character, Rapture is designed to complement the player's existing guitar, pickups and amplifier. From subtle, almost imperceptible enhancement to expressive low-to-mild overdrive, it responds naturally to playing dynamics: pick softly for an open, restrained sound, or dig in for increased compression and edge.
This makes Rapture equally suited as an always-on tonal foundation, a responsive low-gain overdrive or a versatile addition to gain-stacking setups -- including combinations with fuzz and boost pedals. This makes Rapture equally suited as an always-on tonal foundation, a responsive low-gain overdrive or a versatile addition to gain-stacking setups. The Triptychon sound – with more control
At its core, Rapture retains the exact original Triptychon drive voice, with three familiar controls – Drive, Tone and Master – joined by two interactive toggle switches:
• MORE extends the available drive and gain response, depending on the Drive setting and the position of MOD.
• MOD changes the circuit's clipping behaviour. In its modified position, clipping is reduced for a more open, amplifier-like response, reminiscent of a tube amp approaching the limits of its clean headroom. With both switches in their original down positions, Rapture reproduces the original Triptychon drive circuit and sound. Other combinations offer variations in headroom, compression, harmonic content and playing feel, while preserving the pedal's core sonic character.
Inspired by the Garden of Earthly Delights
Like Triptychon, Rapture draws inspiration from Hieronymus Bosch's The Garden of Earthly Delights. In particular, the painting's left panel – depicting the Garden of Eden – inspired the pedal's name and its association with wonder, exhilaration and the joy of discovering the perfect sound.Key highlights include:
• The complete Triptychon drive section in a standalone pedal, with expanded controls
• Low-to-mild overdrive inspired by the sound and feel of a tube amplifier at its sweet spot
• Three intuitive controls: Drive, Tone and Master
• MORE toggle switch extends the available drive and gain response
• MOD toggle switch reduces clipping in its modified position for a more open, amplifier-like response
• Both switches in their original down positions reproduce the exact Triptychon drive voice
• Interactive switch combinations offer variations in headroom, compression, harmonic content and playing feel
• Relay-based true bypass switching
• 9–18V DC operation (centre-negative)
• Distinctive Eden Gold enclosure, designed and hand-built in Athens, Greece
