u-he has released Panora, a new soundset for its flagship Diva synthesizer plug-in. The collection takes its cues from a particular strain of 70s and 80s electronica: imagined journeys, fantastic landscapes, distant worlds, and the occasional brush with period library music.
The set follows that arc in two halves. Its 70s side is rougher around the edges - warmer, dustier, less perfectly tuned and more willing to drift. The 80s side clears the haze, cleaner, tighter and more polished without losing the plot. Expect dusty windswept vistas, gentle pads, quirky found instruments, alien percussion and strange melodies, running from the unfamiliar to the quietly menacing.
Its designed to fit somewhere between movie soundtrack, electronic concept album and the more eccentric end of functional music. u-he describes the set as less about nostalgia for its own sake than about using the vocabulary of two innovative decades of electronica as a starting point.
Panora is €39 and is NKS-ready. It requires Diva version 1.4.8 or newer, and the download includes a full preset list and a Read Me PDF. Demo tracks on the product page include Voyager, There is Life in the Abandoned Arboretum and Escape Pod Entertainment System, from Bjulin, Hyboid, Oddvar and Viktor.
If one set is not enough, u-he also sells the Diva Soundset Bundle, which pairs Panora with Atmos, Automata, DEFORM, Oxide and Performer. That is 6 soundsets and over 1500 patches for €139, against €207 if bought individually. It too requires Diva 1.4.8 or newer.
