UDO DMNO ON - Desktop DMNO System

US Desktop DMNO and expanders...      06/10/26

UDO Audio has introduced DMNO ON, a desktop version of its DMNO synthesizer that keeps the full voice count, the hybrid engine and the multi-timbral architecture while doing away with the keyboard. It is not a cut-down instrument: this is a complete 8-voice, 2-part multi-timbral DMNO in a box measuring 487 x 220 x 107mm and weighing 4.5kg, built around the same two independent analog-hybrid synth engines and retaining the flexible signal architecture of the original.

For anyone who liked the sound of DMNO but did not want another keyboard in the room, this could be for you.

UDO DMNO ON

DMNO ONE has the same voice architecture as the keyboard:

Dynamic Multi-Core Stereo VCF - the new filter design at the centre of the instrument, with parallel, series and stereo connection modes, and multiple filter modes available within each connection type.

Eight Play Modes - single-control reconfigurations of the signal flow that change how the two independent engines interact with each other.

Binaural mode - each channel (ear) gets its own full synthesizer voice with independent detune, phase, amplitude and filter. You trade eight standard voices for four "super" voices to gain the width and 3D positioning.

FPGA digital oscillators - ultra high sample rate, high resolution, alias-free digital oscillators feeding an analog signal path.

Connectivity - 2-in 2-out 24-bit USB audio interface, stereo external audio input with variable-gain preamp, gate level detector and envelope-follower input to the modulation matrix, a stereo auxiliary output assignable to DMNO 1/2, host USB audio or the effects send bus, and two user-assignable CV and gate/clock outputs on 3.5mm sockets.

Effects - a 32-bit DSP chain covering delay, reverb, EQ, overdrive/distortion and chorus.

Interface - an electroluminescent glass vacuum fluorescent display with dedicated rotary controls, deliberately built around immediacy with no deep menus and few hidden controls.

DMNO ON Also introduces an OS update which adds a Super6 oscillator mode, faster patch loading and increased memory, this is also available to the DMNO Keyboard.

UDO Audio ONM-1

But there's more to the  ON System. ONM expander units connect to the base unit over a screw-in 37 pin D-Sub cable, up to two at a time. ONM-1 Synth Control add an additional DMNO voice control unit, letting you control both modules simultaneously.

ONM-2 FX
ONM-2 FX Control goes beyond the original, putting hands-on control over the effects engines that are controlled with parameter access on the original. Further modules (ONM-3, ONM-4, ONM-5) are promised. UDO notes the FX expander is coming soon and its exact control layout may change.

VESA Mounting - as with the Super6 Desktop, UDO have included VESA mounting points on all the units as well as providing additional plates to connect DMNO ON and ONM modules for combinations that suit your space. These can then be mounted on easy to source VESA mount systems.

The pricing is set to be DMNO One £2099, ONM-1 Additional DMNO voice control £659.
Mounting plates to connect have yet to be priced, but George told us they would be affordable.

We shot a presentation video with George Hearn, in which he walks through what DMNO ON does and where the ON System is heading.
