Alex from Sonible takes us through their smart:chain plug-in, intelligent channel-strip plug-in and linked mixing system. Each instance can analyze its track, set up processing after a learning phase, and communicate with the other instances in the DAW session to help create an intelligent balance.
smart:chain has seven fixed modules:
gate, EQ, de-harsher/de-esser, input rider, compressor, saturation and clipper.
The chain order is fixed as modules interact internally; for example, the compressor reacts to EQ decisions. Its neural-network processing runs locally with the models installed on your drive, so audio data does not leave the computer. It supports VST3, Audio Unit and AAX on Mac and PC.
The system also includes profile-based learning with user selected instrument types, optional auto-leveling, group management, with a front/mid/back layering method. Moving a source forward or backward changes EQ and compression behaviour, while manual control of level, pan and processing is also possible. The EQ includes a smart filter plus up to 24 manual bands. Groups offer trim control, mute and solo, genre-based auto-leveling behaviour, and assignment management.
smart:chain has just been updated with these new features:
smart:chain is available with a 30-day trial. The intro price is $99 instead of $179, extended until after the update release. The update is due at the beginning of October and adds group view changes, mute/solo and profile-selection improvements.
