Serato has opened a public beta for Serato DJ 5.0, led by a rebuilt analysis engine the company calls Lucid Beatgrids. The beta is available to all users now, ahead of the official release.

Lucid Beatgrids - a completely rebuilt analysis engine that automatically detects tempo changes and downbeats across both fixed- and fluctuating-BPM tracks. Serato says the result is greater accuracy and reliability, less manual grid editing, and difficult tracks that are easier to play with confidence. Existing tracks need re-analysing to pick up the new grids.
Beatgrid editing - a new Flexible analysis mode sits alongside an improved Fixed mode, with additional grid editing controls and BPM labels on the waveform for track prep.
Cue Loops (DJ Pro only) - a loop can be saved straight to a Hot Cue, so one button press jumps the playhead to the cue point and fires the loop.
Open Streaming - DJs can log into several streaming services at once and mix across providers and their local library without switching accounts. Each provider now appears as its own crate, with a new search dropdown for moving between services while browsing.
BPM and key data are also shown for streaming tracks before analysis, on Beatport, SoundCloud, Tidal and Spotify. Apple Music is not yet supported.
Lucid Beatgrids and Open Streaming come to both DJ Pro and Lite. Cue Loops is DJ Pro only. The public beta is open to all users, and pricing for the final release has not been announced.
Serato has been building DJ and production software since 1999, starting with the Pitch 'n Time time-stretching plug-in that became an industry standard and still underpins the core DJ application.
