FP-40: Roland's First Wi-Fi Piano

Roland has announced the FP-40, a new portable digital piano that is the company's first to include built-in Wi-Fi. It arrives alongside Piano Sphere, a free companion app developed with Skoove - a learning method already used by over three million players - offering guided lessons, a song library, and automatic progress tracking.

  • Built-in Wi-Fi - the piano connects directly to your home network and to Piano Sphere. Both piano and app receive wireless updates, and playing history is recorded automatically even when the app isn't open.
  • PHA-4 Standard keyboard - fully weighted hammer action with escapement and Ivory Feel keys, plus a triple-sensor system for natural response.
  • Piano Reality Sound Engine - derived from Roland's flagship GP-series grand pianos, with an enhanced speaker system and redesigned internal layout for deeper low-end.
  • Bluetooth - stream songs from a phone or tablet through the piano's speakers.
  • Roland Piano App - free app for sound personalisation and access to features not on the front panel.
  • Piano Sphere app - free for iOS and Android, with 100 licensed and copyright-free songs including Coldplay and Harry Styles; a paid upgrade unlocks over 1,000 songs and lessons.

The FP-40 joins your home network after the initial setup, and it hands over playing data to Piano Sphere even when the app is closed. If the app detects trouble with a section, the Piano Sphere button on the piano flashes to offer help. Streaks, reward badges, and personalised plans based on skill level and musical taste are designed to keep players engaged. The app supports English, German, Spanish, French, Japanese, Korean, traditional Chinese, and simplified Chinese.

The FP-40 is a portable slab-style piano with a compact cabinet, and it stays current after purchase thanks to the wireless updates. Roland is positioning the instrument as part of its "Direct Connect" strategy, which aims to link instruments directly to network services and customer journeys.

The FP-40 is available now for $749.
