Native Instruments Release AG Cook SuperStarSaw
US
New synth delivers his stacked sawtooth wave signature sound 16/07/26
If anyone has earned the right to put their name on a supersaw, it's A. G. Cook. The PC Music founder, executive producer for Charli xcx, and the man behind much of the stacked-saw sound on brat (which won him a Grammy and the 2025 BRIT Producer of the Year), has spent years building those wide, detuned textures manually - layering multiple synths by hand. Super*Saw, a two-year collaboration with Native Instruments built directly from his own patches and sessions, puts that process into a single plugin.
Pronounced "Super Star Saw", apparently.
Key features:
Two independent 16-saw oscillator banks form the core of the engine.
A 4-corner X/Y Morpher stores four patch states and interpolates continuously between them - what would otherwise be a stack of automation lanes becomes one performance gesture.
Chord, scale, and quantize constraints keep things musical while you explore, with controlled off-grid deviation when you want deliberate dissonance.
Per-voice glide and offset controls for the liquid pitch smears and stereo motion central to Cook's sound.
Chorus, delay, and reverb built in, plus LP, BP, and HP filters at 2-pole and 4-pole slopes.
Mono/poly switching covers leads, basses, stacks, and chords in one instance.
Preset library spanning blissed-out harmonies, metallic dissonance, ravey leads, and glides; integrates with Komplete Kontrol keyboards and Maschine. Logo and morpher visuals by Cook's long-time collaborator Simon Whybray.
The supersaw itself is hardly new - it's been a trance and pop staple since the Roland JP-8000 - but if you've ever tried to recreate the harmonically dense, hyper-detuned quality running through A.G's work, you'll know it's more work than one oscillator section usually allows.
