At Superbooth 2026, we had the opportunity to speak with Tyler from Chase Bliss about the Chompi latest firmware update, Tempo. This chromatic sampler offers seven-note polyphony, inviting you to experiment with various samples loaded from an SD card. Unlike its predecessor, Tape, the new firmware emphasizes performance alignment with features tailored to sequence or clock-based setups.
Chompi allows sample loading via instrument input or onboard microphone, supporting real-time recording and playback. The sound design section features adjustable speed, volume, panning, and filtering with a resonant high-pass or low-pass filter and a bit crusher for added texture. Sample manipulation is straightforward, with options to set sample start and end points and adjust attack and decay settings.
The effects suite includes stereo delay and reverb, while a versatile pattern generator combines step sequencing with arpeggiator functions. For live performance adaptability, both sample engines, Tempo and Slice, can be integrated for creative real-time adjustments. The flexibility extends with drum pattern customization and real-time playability, making Chompi a comprehensive tool for dynamic sound creation.
