MNTRA Instruments: The Dark Tower

US Industrial field recordings as an instrument      18/09/25

MNTRA Instruments have recently releases DARK TOWER, a unique instrument made from industrial field recordings taken inside a decommissioned concrete grain silo. This preset walkthrough showcases some of the 52 factory presets and 30 Atelier presets available with the plugin, which comes in 96kHz, 24-Bit format. Here's Brian D'Oliveria explaining the instrument for it's launch video:

Here's the full rundown...

The Dark Tower is a percussive virtual instrument captured within a massive decommissioned grain silo, where concrete walls and metal infrastructure create unparalleled acoustic depth. Field recordings of massive metal sheets, resonant staircases, and cavernous shafts have been transformed into a powerful percussion library designed for trailer music, cinematic scores, and experimental production. Each strike reverberates through vertical space, creating textures that pulse with metallic decay, concrete reflections, and the ghostly resonance of industrial times in the city.

The Dark Tower is a haunting journey into the acoustic depths of an urban landscape. This instrument launches our Microfield Recordings Series, where portable recording expeditions transform unique spaces into complete musical instruments. We explore, we discover, we capture--turning architectural acoustics into playable sound worlds.
