Zoom L6max - The Perfect Mixer Recorder?

We all got very excited when the Zoom L6  came out. A 12 channel digital mixer and 14 channel (12 ins + L/R master) recorder with FX , EQ and snapshot memories? And MIDI?

Yes please, and the L6 certainly filled a void for many people looking for a compact Swiss army knife.

The brand new Zoom L6max ads a couple more mic/combi input channels (with 48v), bringing the inputs to 12 (from 10) and adds a second buss - which really helps with the routing issues the L6 lacked. Plus we now have an LCD display in addition to the meters which will help with control and settings.

Another big plus is the addition of a mix minus on the USB return - thank goodness - the L6 did not have this and the default outs  (1+2) are fed from L+R buss , which means you can't use it for Zoom calls or situations when you don't want the USB audio return feed to go back to the call.

This one is a biggie for us as we wanted to use it as our default Podcasting interface, and also the ability to send a stereo feed out via the Sub Mix buss is a great help when routing signals for recording etc.

The new L6max is around 30% more than the L6 at around £397 UK and is slightly larger too, but it might just be the perfect small format soundcard/mixer/recorder you are looking for. Though we still don't know how it will handle Eurorack levels - we do know that there are now switchable (attenuation pads on stereo inputs 6/7/8 (-20dB).
