Superbooth 2025: Nystrom - Crum Hum + Crum Drum

US Generative multi engine synth in a tiny form factor      11/05/25

At Superbooth 2025 we had a chat with Albert Nystrom  the creator of the Nystrom Crum Hum, a touch-based, generative synthesizer with a focus on ambient and glitchy textures. The device features three independent voices, each capable of running different sound engines--ranging from wave tables and FM synthesis to noisy, glitch textures. It supports 20 scale types, randomized note generation within chosen scales, and hands-on shaping with touch plates and master effects like reverb, delay and overdrive. It's also available as a DIY kit for those with basic soldering skills.

Alongside it, we looked at the Crum Drum, a four-voice generative drum machine using probability-based rhythm creation. Each voice can be individually controlled or linked, and patterns can be regenerated with a single button press. A new iteration, the Crum Drum 2, is in development with deeper performance features, MIDI and CV integration, and sample playback.
