Three New Portable Sound Tools

VAEMI has introduced three new portable devices that they say are for experimental sound creators and sonic explorers: the Kraakdoos (Cracklebox), Atari Punk Console, and Mini Mixer.

A spokesperson told us, "Each device is compact, battery-powered, and designed for musicians who want the freedom to create sound anywhere--on the street, on stage, or in the studio. Developed with VAEMI's signature analog engineering expertise, these tools also stand out with their affordable price tags."

Here's the details direct from the company...

Kraakdoos (Cracklebox)
VAEMI's version of the legendary Cracklebox, originally created by Michel Waisvisz in the 1970s, is built around the LM709 op-amp and played through six touch-sensitive points. By connecting different parts of the circuit with your fingers, you generate unique, noise-based textures and tones. Each performance is unpredictable and personal--every touch brings a new sonic experience.

 Atari Punk Console
Inspired by the iconic stepped tone generator circuit by Forrest M. Mims III, this device functions both as a button-controlled synth and a drone generator. It features light-dependent resistor (LDR) sensors that change the oscillator frequency based on ambient light. Touching the LDRs adds body resistance into the circuit, turning them into expressive LFOs. The VAEMI version includes filter on/off, LDR control buttons, and three CV inputs (CV1, CV2, VCA CV) for integration into modular setups.

 Mini Mixer
The VAEMI Mini Mixer is a 4-channel compact analog mixer with 3.5mm jack inputs, perfect for modular rigs or portable synth setups. Each channel includes a dedicated saturation circuit, while the fourth channel features a special feedback function that kicks in when no jack is connected. When all channels are muted, the mixer enters self-oscillation, effectively transforming into a drone generator.

 Portability & Accessibility
All three devices can be powered via a 9V battery or a DC adapter (8V–16V). They are available as DIY kits ($49–$59) or fully assembled units ($89).

With its distinct sonic identity and aesthetics, VAEMI opens up new creative ground for portable and experimental sound design. These three new tools are a playground for anyone eager to push sonic boundaries and explore freely.
