Simon Hutchinson has a fantastic youtube channel packed with tutorials and guides to using the programming and development end of music software - we covered his subharmonic synth in Reaktor last year. In this short video, he demonstrates (literally - there is no talking) how to make a complex FM oscillator in PureData - a free programming language which is similar to Max/MSP.
In this patch, we set up a simple FM synthesizer with one sine wave modulating another's frequency. Then, instead of leaving it there, we take our output and use it to modulate the modulation oscillation, leading some wonderful, unpredictable complex sounds.
PureData will run on a host of platform including the Organelle, as evidenced by Kristoffer Lislegaard in his Snowgrains patch. His entire playlist of PD tutorials is here. More excellent educational videos on his youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCc-SJYfHkV-vkNbGCoOJ7AQ
