BeatConnect Partners With MUTEK Festival

Just in from BeatConnect...

BeatConnect is thrilled to announce their partnership with electronic music and digital arts festival MUTEK. The two organizations share roots in Montreal, and are united in their effort to advance digital culture, break down creative barriers, and foster innovation among artists and producers. This year's edition of MUTEK runs from August 24–September 5.

The need for better virtual collaboration tools has been a driving force for developments by both groups. MUTEK's 2020 festival made use of a hybrid model of in-venue and online performances, allowing the show to go on despite the limitations imposed by COVID-19. At this year's event, BeatConnect's cutting-edge software solution will be showcased to the global electronic music scene, inspiring artists to connect and collaborate with each other in new ways.

"Every year, MUTEK pushes the boundaries of electronic music and the culture around it," says BeatConnect co-founder and CTO Nick Laroche. "I'm happy to be part of the tidal wave this time around." Adds Alexandre Turbide, BeatConnect's co-founder and CEO, "Mutek was a clear fit for us from day one. They've been a must-see festival for the past 20 years and we're humbled to be one of their educational partners for this year's iteration."

As part of MUTEK's 2021 edition, BeatConnect will be demonstrated by local producers Pheek (Jean-Patrice Rémillard) and Stereo_IMG (Patrick Haggart) participating in a remote studio session enabled by BeatConnect's software. A video artifact of this collaboration will be hosted on virtual.mutek.org until the end of September.

BeatConnect allows musicians to collaborate in real time, regardless of geography, operating system, or DAW. Sometimes referred to as "Google Docs for music," BeatConnect is both a plugin and a standalone desktop app which supports asynchronous real-time collaboration, eliminating several obstacles to making music.

Founded in 2000, MUTEK is dedicated to the dissemination and development of digital creativity in sound, music, and audiovisual art. Its mandate is to provide a platform for original and visionary artists with the intent of promoting initiation and discovery. Every year, MUTEK hosts a festival in Montreal and events around the world. This year, MUTEK is supporting the electronic music community with a lineup of around 60 live performances by Quebec-based artists and an online extension featuring international acts at virtual.mutek.org. Additionally, the MUTEK Forum will feature over 100 speakers discussing themes including artificial intelligence, extended reality, and the challenges of the music industry.
