Free Download Of The Doom Compressor

US Mick Gordon's sound re-created in custom device      27/02/21

Doom is videogame synonymous with the heavily distorted guitars of it's composer Mick Gordon. In a video shared online he showed his 'Doom Compressor', a custom plugin which seriously compresses/expands incoming signals. Now youtuber GeoffPlaysGuitar has replicated the Doom compressor and offers two versions for free download.

It's made up of four elements:

  • 200dB upwards expander
  • Multi EQ bands
  • Hard compression at 0dB
  • Control knobs

The Doom compressor is an extreme upwards compressor which amplifies signals anywhere between 0 and -200dB taking them all to 0dB - making even low level noises audible. In his video, Geoff shows the effect of the compressor on a clap, changing the texture significantly - which will give it some alternative uses for sound designers aside from smashing your guitars.

There's also a free Max4Live device available which also replicates the Doom compressor.
