Learn Modular Synthesis Online

Electroacoustic performer-composer Sarah Belle Reid has announced the launch of her new online program Learning Sound and Synthesis, which she says teaches you how to compose and perform with modular synthesizers and how to make dynamic and interactive patches so that you can create music that sounds uniquely like you.

You don't even need to have a synthesizer to participate in Learning Sound and Synthesis as it uses the free VCV Rack modular synthesizer application that is designed to emulate the sound, workflow, and control of hardware modular synthesizers - universal tools, techniques, and concepts that you can apply immediately within VCV Rack will transfer over to any synthesizer you work with in the future.

Sarah Belle Reid told us, "I've been developing and refining this program for months. I have laid everything out step-by-step to cut through the overwhelm that usually accompanies trying to learn new technology, so that you can focus on making music. This program includes everything from the most important building blocks of synthesis, to much more advanced and intricate patching strategies, to techniques for interfacing modular gear with other electronic and acoustic instruments and your studio. It's everything I wish I had when I was first getting started!"

This program is not like a typical DIY online course: over 20 hours of step-by-step video lectures, demos, and interactive exercises are supplemented with LIVE group coaching calls over Zoom, allowing students to receive feedback on their music, receive in-person coaching, and connect with like-minded musicians from all over the world. Additionally, this program includes guest lectures from popular modular synth artists such as Todd Barton (USA), Omri Cohen (EU), Bana Haffar (USA), Kurt Kurasaki (USA), among others.

Enrollment for Learning Sound & Synthesis opens on Monday Dec. 7 and closes Friday
Dec. 11 at 11:59pm. This program only runs a couple of times each year, and there are a limited number of spots available.
