Google Have Unveiled an Experimental Synthesizer - NSynth Super

US NSynth uses a neural network to synthesize sounds      14/03/18

NSynth Super is an open source neural network synthesizer developed by Magenta, Google’s research project that looks at how AI can help people be more creative. The synthesizer is not set to be releases by Google, however the directions of how to build your own NSynth Super using a Raspberry Pi are available on Github. You don't get the nice sexy touch screen interface though....

The NSynth Super is the hardware and NSynth is the neural network technology that actually creates sounds. The neural network learns the core qualities of what makes up an individual sound and then is able to combine sounds to create something completely new. Think Kaoss Pad....

In the video above we can see how the X/Y pad is used to synthesize a new sound based on the acoustic qualities of both a Flute and a Snare drum creating a Fnare?!

NSynth Super can be played via any MIDI source, like a DAW, sequencer, or keyboard, and features some onboard parameter shaping, like basic ADSR (attack, decay, sustain, release). Although the NSynth Super isn’t available for purchase.
