The Townsend Labs Sphere L22 Mic Modelling system starts with a great two diaphragm, condenser that can work in stereo, but ads some really smart DSP technology. The plug-in allows you to take the stereo recorded mic track and allows you to apply different mic models to the recorded sound, changing the character completely, as well as making adjustments to the axis and proximity too.
When coupled with Universal Audio's Apollo system, you can apply this in real-time to an incoming signal. Essentially, choosing what mic you want the Sphere to be.
Its some really smart processing, the highly calibrated mic means they can calculate all of the necessary maths with the difference between the two discrete capsules.
Since its release, people have been raving about it, as we know, mic collections can be incredibly expensive, with many pro engineers resorting to hiring specific mics. With the Sphere, you can combine several classic mics in one unit.
We had a visit from Townsend's Andy Bensley who took us through the system.
Sphere L22 Mic Modelling system is available now priced at around £1,400 UK.
