Hank Marvin and Burns guitars introduce a limited edition 40th anniversary Marvin guitar 04/04/04
Hank spanks his plank
Long before the Beatles became a household name, The Shadows were the UK's top group both as a combo producing hit after instrumental hit and as backing band to the Peter Pan of pop, Sir Cliff Richard. Hank Marvin, with his trademark Buddy Holly specs, wa s and is their legendary guitarist and in 1963 along with fellow Shadow Bruce Welch and Jim Burns of Burns Guitars he helped to design the Burns Marvin guitar which he played from 1964 until 1970 when unfortunately all his guitars were stolen.
Original v intage Marvins now go for big bucks (around 4000 GBP, maybe more) when they come up for sale but Burns London and Hank have got together again to produce a 40th anniversary limited edition (2004 instruments) of the Marvin that sells for 749 GBP and is cur rently shipping.
Assembled in the UK, the new edition is a faithful reproduction of the original, finished in white with tortoiseshell scratchplate. Each is numbered and comes with a certificate signed by Hank himself, a black leather strap and a grey c rocodile effect hard case.
Hank Marvin may have become the English rhyming slang phrase for being hungry (I'm Hank Marvin = I'm starving) but he also knows a thing or two about guitars - this is what he says about this new model, "The new Burns Marvin plays superbly and I am very happy to be the proud owner of one of these fine guitars, it plays and sounds as good as my original".
