Make Noise Firmware Adds Audio Rate X Mod To NUSS System

Make Noise has pushed new firmware for three of the digital modules in its New Universal Synthesizer System - MultiWAVE, PoliMATHS and MultiMod - adding several new functions, not just bug fixes.

For anyone not familiar with NUSS: it's the Make Noise system built around generating multi-channel, polyphonic patches from a minimal set of monophonic controls. MultiWAVE is the eight-channel dual wavetable oscillator, PoliMATHS the eight-channel complex function generator, and MultiMod produces eight time-shifted variants of a single control signal. These updates deepen how those modules talk to each other.

MultiWAVE (v4.3.5)

• New Cross Mod modulation shape, flagged in lime green. Instead of the usual internal LFO mod shapes, one oscillator takes wave-position modulation from the other and scans at audio rate - so it's cross-modulation for adding harmonics and rougher, experimental textures rather than slow movement.
• Custom quantizer scales: you can now load up to eight Scala (.scl) files for custom quantization, opening the door to microtonal and non-standard tunings.

PoliMATHS (v1.7.3)

• Adds DC offsets on the Strength control. Turn Strength into its negative region without Activating PoliMATHS and a connected QXG pair works as a simple mixer - the normalled offsets let QXG channels drone when turned up, whether fed from a MultiWAVE over the chain cables or any signal patched to their inputs.
• Turn Oscillations up for unlocked tremolo, or Activate PoliMATHS channels to duck specific QXG outputs. Patch-saving tricks that lean on the system's pre-normalled wiring.

MultiMod (v0.7.5)

• The Channel Index output has been reworked so it behaves when MultiMod is processing audio. It now runs off an internal envelope follower, so it can derive gates from delayed signals that contain transients - which makes it easier to pull timing information out of a MultiMod being used as an audio delay.
• Housekeeping: fixes to Rate and Time on the Random shape, a display fix for the Square LFO in bipolar mode, and a revised start-up routine to cure power-up issues in heavily loaded cases.

The updates also lower the current consumption of their respective modules.
