Is That A Flute In Your Pocket?

US Artinoise launch a Kickstarter for trillo pocket-sized digital flute      06/05/26

Artinoise has launched launch a Kickstarter for trillo, a digital flute. A spokesperson told us, "trillo brings together everything Italy-based Artinoise has learned from its wildly successful previous projects, the hybrid re.corder and smart phone-based ZEFIRO. trillo is a slender, palm-sized (8.5in) device that's ready to play from the moment you pick it up, while still harnessing the full potential of a MIDI controller."

Here details about trillo direct from the company...:

- It's designed for everyone, from pro musicians to complete beginners
- It has a wide range of quality onboard sounds ready to play immediately, a sizeable library of free sounds and even more that can be downloaded and installed for a small fee via trillo's companion app
- Players can also onboard backing tracks in a range of genres to the device to jam along to via the trillo app
- The interface is intuitive, with multicolored LED buttons to guide playing and sensors that carefully track breath intensity and movement/position, creating lifelike variations in timbre
- It can connect to MIDI via both USB or Bluetooth, and it has an audio output to play via headphones or speakers
- The companion app is not required, but expands the instruments functions and can import and configure MIDI tracks and fingering patterns as part of the built-in educational path that comes with the app.

The latest digital flute from Artinoise, trillo embodies the simplicity of humanity's oldest instrument. It's a slender, palm-sized device that's ready to play from the moment you pluck it out of your pocket, while still harnessing the full potential of a MIDI controller.

Wind players and music enthusiasts can grab their own trillo thanks to Artinoise's latest Kickstarter campaign. Supporters will get a super early bird price limited to the first 200 backers: 69€ (30% off), and then a special Kickstarter-only price of 79€ (20% off). Prices are tax excluded.

Designed for everyone from pro musicians to complete beginners, trillo brings together everything Italy-based Artinoise has learned from its wildly successful previous projects. As inventor and Artinoise CEO Davide Mancini notes, "We gathered all kinds of helpful feedback from players of our previous instruments," the hybrid re.corder and smart phone-based ZEFIRO, which raised 20 times its goal on Kickstarter in 2024. "Many players did not want to worry about pairing their instrument with another device. They just wanted to play, so we focused on that for the trillo."

trillo's compact size, a mere 22cm (8.5 in), hides a delightful range of quality onboard sounds ready to play immediately. Along with a vast library of standard sounds, trillo has seven slots for premium sound packs, one of which is included with the instrument, while more can be downloaded and installed for a small fee via trillo's companion app. Players can also onboard backing tracks in a range of genres that they can produce in the trillo app.

Its mix of keys, sensors, and outputs expands the instrument's expressive possibilities and allows players of all levels to use it anywhere. trillo's interface is simple and intuitive, and includes multicolored LEDs to guide play. Its sensors carefully track breath intensity and movement/position, creating subtle, beautiful variations in timbre. It can connect to MIDI via both USB or Bluetooth, and it has an audio output to play via headphones or speakers.

While the companion app is not required to play trillo, it expands the instrument's creative functions and educational uses. The trillo app can import and configure MIDI tracks and fingering patterns, part of the built-in instructional path that comes with the app.

"In our vision, trillo will trigger a lot of training and learning, as well as artistic activities, because it's pocket-sized and easy to use but quite deep," reflects Mancini. "We kept all the MIDI tools, and ensured there's a wired connection via USB, another heartfelt aspect for pro musicians. We know trillo will stimulate people to get creative by getting rid of everything that can distract from the instrument. You just pick it up and start to play."
