Blackmagic Design have been disrupting the video production market with their affordable ATEM video switchers, and taking over the video editing space with their Davinci Resolve NLE (we use it here) - a highly capable video editing system that is free to download for Mac/PC and Linux.
Now they've entered the live production space with Fairlight Live (they own the Fairlight audio engine).
Here's their intro paragraph:
Fairlight Live is the world's most powerful live audio mixer. Unlike traditional hardware based audio mixers, Fairlight Live is a software-based mixer, so it can support incredibly powerful features such as spatial audio mixing and SMPTE-2110 broadcast workflows. It even supports full redundancy! Fairlight Live easily handles hundreds or even thousands of audio channels, depending on your computer. Plus, it works with standard computer audio or USB audio from ATEM live production switchers. This means you get a fully customizable live audio mixer with built-in effects and professional features such as a cue player, talkback busses, third-party plug-in support, snapshots and so much more!
Interested? You can download Fairlight Live for free and set it up as a multi-input mixer/recorder using your existing audio interfaces. It incorporates input processing, busses, DCAs, talk-back, mix minus, granular multi-user control and many other complex functions. The Fairlight Audio engine is part of their Davinci Resolve and also included in the ATEM video mixers. It a great sounding mix engnine.

To access the additional SMPTE-2110 digital standard and inputs you will need a dedicated high speed network and hardware encoders, Blackmagic have been moving into this standard for some time to create large multi-camera IP based networks. And they will happily provide you with a range of tasty Fairlight Audio Panels.
However for a free USB based audio mixer, Fairlight Live is hard to beat.
