Behringer has released the PROTON, which they tell us is an analog paraphonic semi-modular beast features 2 VCOs, 2 VCFs, and 2 VCAs, with 4 envelopes and a wave folder in a Eurorack format. They say that its highlights include dual oscillators with 5 waveforms, seamless waveform control, a multi-mode wave folder, and external audio summing for enhanced sound.
Those of you who recall when this was first announced may remember that the PROTON is more of a following on from the Neutron - Behringer's first semi modular synthesizer - 2nd after the Deep Mind 12. Neutron was and still is a great machine with a lot of synthesis capabilities. The PROTON looks equally well equipped with two of everything, plus a wavefolder circuit though sacrificing the drive and delay sections. Its not clear if the ADSRs are still analog as were the Neutrons but we'll hopefully find out.
Its also more expensive than the Neutron priced at $399 rather than $349.
Here's more details from Behringer...
Semi-Modular Design
Designed around an intuitively linear workflow, PROTON benefits greatly from its semi-modular design, which requires no patching for immediate performance. Just put your PROTON into self-oscillation, connect your favorite keyboard or computer via MIDI over DIN or USB – and start exploring the world of analog music synthesis right out of the box.Double Down!
The PROTON's two self-oscillating, multi-mode VCFs can be configured in parallel or series, with linkable CVs for even more possibilities. It's two ASR envelopes, each with reverse/inverse/loop/bounce options, give you control over VCAs and wave folders, while two analog ADSR generators allow for unique sound performance by modulating the VCFs.
