GearFest-UK24: OB-XA V2.0 Adds A New Filter And More

At GearFest UK, we caught up with the inimitable Chris Calcutt to discuss the latest firmware 2.0 for the Oberheim OB-X8 synthesizer. The new 2.0 firmware introduces a range of features, including a modified four-pole low-pass filter that compensates for base impact. This update enhances the OB-X8's already versatile filter types, offering more creative possibilities with high-pass, band-pass, and notch filters. The firmware allows for greater gain management due to its digital control system while maintaining its analog essence.

In addition to the filter updates, the firmware introduces new oscillator combinations, enabling users to combine triangle, saw, and pulse waveforms more flexibly. The update also enhances double patches with dedicated memory, introduces an interesting binaural mode that splits the eight voices into hard-panned four voices on each side, and includes MPE and polychaining capabilities for up to four units (assuming you have the cash!).
