Merlin: Identify Birds from Live Recordings

US It's Ornithological Shazam      04/06/24

It's tech related, it's sound related - so it's good for Sonicstate! Using some pretty incredible technology, the free Merlin Bird ID app allows users ot identify over 1,054 species of birds through a short sound recording. It's highly accurate sound ID listens to the birds around you and shows real-time suggestions for who's singing - then you can compare your recording to the songs and calls in Merlin to confirm what you heard.

The service includes comprehensive coverage in the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Western Palearctic, and coverage of more common and widespread species in the Neotropics and India. It has a really nice spectral interface which is also fun for whistling your own noises to see what birds you can impersonate.

Good luck identifying this R2D2 impersonator.....
