Akai's EWI controller has long been favoured by wind players who want to interface with their MIDI or analogue gear and proves to be an extremely effective and expressive way to control it. See Will Gregory's Moog Ensemble for several examples of them being used to play analogue instruments with excellent expression. (as well as the Yamaha version)
Akai today announce the new EWI Solo Which has its own on board sound source, built-in speaker, rechargeable battery (12hrs playing time), plus USB connectivity for MIDI control of external sound sources.
On board sounds - there are 200 tones designed for expressive playing. Including synth pads to an authentic, sultry jazz clarinet,
EWI Solo's ultra-responsive mouthpiece, with an air-pressure level sensor and bite sensor, precisely controls volume and pitch dynamics for uncompromising response. Combine this with dedicated FX controls to add Reverb, Delay and Chorus, plus editing facilities for Pitch, Tuning and Dual LFOs, and EWI Solo provides everything musicians need to shape thier signature sound.
The EWI Solo will allow players from various disciplines to adapt with flute, oboe, saxophone and EVI (Electronic Valve Instrument) modes.
EWI Solo will be available from Q3 2020 and expected retail price of £399.99
