Everyone's favourite "wild card" modular manufacturer is back with a new design - EARSEWAGE; available as a blank PCB or a complete module, is a quad parallel bandpass filter.
What do you get when you wire up 4 of my bandpass filters in parallel and glom them into a single module?
This.
Sort of a really, really screwed up equaliser.
A version of this did the rounds a while ago but in a very limited run (a couple of modules were made - if you've got one of them, well done) and I've now tweaked the circuit a bit and am giving it another shot.
There are four parallel filters with approximate centres at 63Hz, 250Hz, 500Hz and 1kHz (if you go down the DIY route you can use this calculator to set your own parameters). Each filter is independent of the other and there are individual level controls for each to give you finer control over the output - the old version of the module lacked these. Finally, there's an overall gain control which you can use to either give the sound a bit more presence or generate a godawful racket that will remove earwax at a distance of five miles.
You can use it as an equaliser, of sorts, if you like, but it works best at making things sound absolutely filthy.
14HP wide, and also available as a PCB/panel set if you want to do it yourself - in which case, this article might be of use.
The eagle-eyed amongst you might notice the lack of CV control. Whilst this undoubtedly keeps the device priced nicely, and creates a performative, tweakable focus - DIY fans can actually hack in CV control if they'd like, thanks to extra CV jumper pins on the board!
