Madonna has recently been sharing videos of her work behind the scenes with Stuart Price (aka Les Rythmes Digitales / Jacques Lu Cont) on her latest album (shared below) - so this video seems like a timely introduction to how they were operating on a technical level nearly 20 years ago. Find out how they integrated Digital Performer, Logic and a DJ mixer to remix songs live for the stage.
Madonna has just released the sequel to Confessions, Confessions II which is available here: https://madonna.lnk.to/confessions2
There are also some guest specials, with collaborators, like Arca...
Here is the article from Rolling Stone on Confessions 2, as referenced in the video:
2005's Confessions on a Dance Floor got its start on the road, after producer Stuart Price served as Madonna's musical director on two tours: 2001's Drowned World Tour and 2004's Re-Invention Tour. Fittingly enough, Price and Madonna renewed their collaboration with yet another outing, 2023–24's Celebration Tour, before making this year's sequel album, Confessions II. After Price helped Madonna shape the music for that tour, Madonna eventually reached out to him to go back in the studio, as he explains in his interview on our Rolling Stone Music Now podcast.
In the interview, Price digs deep into the making of one of the year's best albums, from the mixtapes and house influences that shaped its sound to Madonna's fearless incorporation of events in her personal life in the songwriting, and also touches on the pair's live collaborations.
More from the video:
This is the story on how Madonna's Confessions Tour set the standard on live mixing a band way before it became the norm, predating the app Mainstage that was released in 2007, and Stuart Price's ridiculous solution to achieve it at a time when everything was still analog. This was originally written for my Confessions Docu series finale but I decided to have dedicated video about it instead.
