Teenage Engineering Opens Store In New York

Teenage Engineering are continuing to edge their unique brand and design out into the world by opening their first dedicated retail store - in New York.  at 216 Lafayette Street in SoHo, Manhattan. They call it a department store as its on more than one floor. As well as being able to see and touch TE products, they say it will go beyond retail it will act as a space for launches, previews and get-togethers with the community.

Its an interesting move and one that mirrors the Apple retail store strategy by Steve jobs and Ron Johnson which helped elevate that brand to what it is today, though on a much more modest level.

Set within a 6,000 sq ft space, the store was designed and built by Teenage Engineering itself, with every element custom-made.

The upper level is where you can gets hands-on. Teenage Engineering crew will host a range of workshops and special activations there, including a hands-on tutorial on how to create using their products, with multiple units available on site.

The store unofficially opened last night for selected guests, offering a behind the scenes experience - including the chance to build their own EP-133 K.O. II on a production line installed by Teenage Engineering personnel. That line will remain on the upper level for several weeks following the launch. The evening also features a live performance by Lykke Li, composed using Teenage Engineering gear and recorded directly to vinyl using the APC-2.
