Hands-On True-Stereo Algorithmic Reverb

DJW Audio has released Lustre, which they describe as  a true-stereo algorithmic reverb for music production and mixing. A spokesperson told us, "From compact rooms and short ambience to dense plates, spacious halls and creative non-linear effects, Lustre brings a broad range of reverberation into an interface that keeps every sound-shaping fader within reach."

Its seven algorithm families -- Halls, Plates, Rooms, Chambers, Ambience, Non-Linear and Spaces -- each include ten factory presets. The 70 presets provide starting points for adding depth to vocals, placing instruments in a shared acoustic space, shaping drum ambience and building expansive effects.

Sixteen automatable faders are arranged in six groups: Mix, Space, Texture, Decay Shaping, Filtering and Early Reflections. Users can adjust decay time, size and pre-delay; shape diffusion, density and modulation; and tailor low- and high-frequency decay. Dedicated early-reflection controls adjust the balance, tone and reflection pattern, with all controls visible together.

Lustre uses an original algorithmic engine rather than loading captured impulse responses. Its Non-Linear family offers short, shaped reflection bursts for gated and reverse-like effects, extending the palette beyond conventional decaying reverb tails.

Lustre is available for Intel and Apple Silicon Macs in AU, VST3 and AAX formats. A fully featured 14-day trial is available, and a licence supports two machines.
