Osmose 2.3 Firmware Adds DAW Control - Free Ctrl-e

Expressive E, the Marseille-based company behind the much enjoyed  Osmose and Osmose CE controller, has released firmware 2.3 as a free update for the original Osmose instrument. 
It adds Osmose CE controller and DAW integration so you can use it like an Osmose CE controller - plus you get a free Ctrl-e license so you can run those MPE plug-ins from one centralised location.

Osmose was built around a multidimensional keyboard and the EaganMatrix sound engine developed with Haken Audio, and it has grown through a run of firmware releases since launch. Version 2.3 pushes it further in both directions: deeper control of the outside world, and a wider set of sounds to play from the same keybed.

• DAW Control - transport and metronome, playhead and loop management, navigation between tracks, scenes and clips, and mixing for the selected track, plus macros for the current track. Undo/redo, quantisation and tempo sit behind the Osmose Mode button, which now doubles as a Shift button.
• Ctrl-e licence - free for all Osmose owners, giving access to over 900 expressive presets across several synth engines, including sounds from Expressive E and partners Kilohearts, Synapse Audio, Dawesome, Applied Acoustics Systems, GForce and Vital. Select a Ctrl-e track and Osmose detects it and switches to Ctrl-e mode, so you can browse, filter and navigate from the instrument. Previously purchased Expressive Suites can be downloaded in Ctrl-e format. Note that the licence covers the preset library, not full licences for Noisy 2 or the partner instruments inside it.
• Bottom action bar - hold the mode button in any menu for semitone transposition with independent settings per mode, switches for Pressure Glide and the Expressive Arpeggiator, and access to the main menu.
• MIDI and hardware - redesigned USB MIDI setup across DAW Control, Ctrl-e and external gear, consolidation of expressive performance data recording and playback (synth macros, global FX parameters and slider movements), and Osmose can now act as a DIN MIDI to USB MIDI interface. Plus the usual bug fixes and stability work.

For anyone already using Osmose as the centre of a studio setup, the DAW Control is a handy free addition to what you already have- record, move around a session and adjust a mix without reaching for the mouse. The Ctrl-e licence extends the same expressive playing into software instruments at no extra cost.

Firmware 2.3 is a free download through your registered Expressive E account, with installation instructions included. Expressive E says more is coming, including new editors for the internal EaganMatrix engine.
