We spoke to Joe Grisso from Rain City Modular about the SCSX, the new addition to the Sequencer Construction Set.
The wider SCS system breaks a sequencer into modules including clock, voltage, trigger and sequential switching sections. The system passes clock between modules via the back panel, so connected modules jump together. The voltage sequencer runs 1 to 8 steps with a chromatic quantizer, while the trigger sequencer runs 1 to 16 steps with per-step ratcheting.
The SCSX is a clock generator and dual multiplier/divider. Each side operates in musical or numeric mode. Numeric mode divides or multiplies up to 64 times, and each section can take clock from the Rain Sync bus, internal generator, clock input or the other section. It also sets pattern length, active pulse count, rotation, spread and randomness. Musical mode runs from 64th notes to two bars, with dotted, triplet and swing settings.
SCS modules are in stock direct and through Perfect Circuit. Individual modules are around $150, starter kits are $600 or $700, and SCSX ships in October 2026 for $229.
