MVT Origins: Fatboy Slim in Brighton

US New series exploring grassroots music venues      29/08/26

A new series about exploring grassroots music venues is kicking off in Brighton with Norman Cook aka Fatboy Slim. This first episode covers the history of the original Big Beat Boutique, and then goes into a roundtable with various venue owners in the area. It's an important topic to cover at a time when business rates are skyrocketing, and people are becoming - possibly - less hedonistic, due to various reasons, including the cost of drinking alcohol. The MVT have a supporters circle...

The Supporters Circle is for people who want to play a bigger part in the culture they care about. People who believe grassroots music venues deserve more than admiration; they deserve advocates. Last year, Music Venue Trust stood alongside more than 200 venues facing crisis.

Here's more:

Every artist has an origin story. This is where theirs began. MVT: Origins is a new series exploring the grassroots music venues that shaped some of the UK's most celebrated artists. Across five episodes, musicians return to the rooms where they found their feet, reconnecting with the people, places and communities that helped make those early years possible. Episode one follows Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim) as he returns to Brighton to retrace the steps from the now long-gone Concorde Club to an international career, and reflects on why the city's grassroots music venues remain as vital as ever in giving the next generation of artists somewhere to begin. Created by Big Orange in partnership with Music Venue Trust. If you believe these places matter, the most direct way to stand with them is by joining MVT's Supporters Circle.
