Driftlab Audio has announced the release of Vintage Spring, a VST3 amp simulator built around the spring reverb and tremolo circuit of a vintage American tube combo. Vintage Spring is available now for Windows. Here's the details direct from the company...
Plays Like an Amp
Vintage Spring is built around six controls - Volume, Treble, Bass, Reverb, Speed, and Intensity - with no menus buried three levels deep. The goal is touch response: the amp should feel different at 9 o'clock than at noon, the same way the original hardware does.
The signal chain models each stage of a real amp rather than approximating it with a shelf EQ: an input stage, sweepable Treble and Bass tone shelves, and a power amp section with frequency-dependent saturation. The spring reverb send is filtered to reproduce the natural bass-shy roll-off of a real spring tank, giving the "drip" without muddying the low end. Tremolo runs from 0.1 to 8 Hz and is centered on unity gain, so switching it on doesn't change the average level of the signal.
Key features:
- Vintage American tube amp chain - input stage, tone shelves, and a power
- amp stage with frequency-dependent saturation
- Spring reverb with authentic pre-delay and high-pass filtering on the
- send, for tank character without low-end mud
- Tremolo, 0.1–8 Hz, unity-gain centered so enabling it doesn't shift
- overall level
- Four cabinet modes - Bypass, Balanced Chime, Warm Vintage, and Bright
- Clarity - with smooth crossfading between them, even mid-session
- Direct Out mode, which bypasses the spring reverb and swaps in a
- higher-headroom limiter for stacking cleanly with overdrive or
- distortion pedals later in the chain
- 50 factory presets across five styles - Clean & Classic, Surf & Tremolo,
- Country & Twang, Blues & Jazz, and Rockabilly & Vintage - plus
- save/load/delete for user presets
- Up to 8x oversampling, automatically adapting to session sample rate (2x
- for tracking, 4x for mixing, 8x for final export)
Vintage Spring is suited to surf guitar and classic tremolo tones, country twang, blues and jazz reverb, and recording vintage amp character direct - as well as FX-chain stacking via Direct Out.
