Generative Tape Loop Instrument

Tunary Instruments has released SILT which they describe as a generative tape loop instrument. Thi sis what they have to say about it...

Four short melodic loops of different lengths drift slowly out of phase through a warm tape machine. SILT writes the music itself -- soft music-box tones, smeared by wow, dust and age, layered over field recordings of birds, stream and vinyl. Press play and it settles into gentle ambient that never quite repeats.

Four loops that drift apart
Bass, low, mid and air -- each a short melodic loop of a different length. They slide out of phase against each other, so the combination doesn't repeat for minutes. The music comes from the drift, not from chords.

A soft, dark music box
Every note is a gentle plucked tine -- warm, bell-like, always in a pentatonic scale so it can never sound wrong. Pick a Mood and a Root and the whole machine stays consonant.

Wow, dust, warp & age
Run everything through a real tape path -- pitch wobble, hiss and crackle, level dropouts, and a tone that darkens as you age the tape. Turn on Disintegrate and the loops slowly wear down and regrow.

Organic delay & tank reverb
A tape echo that darkens with every repeat, and a synthesized vintage spring reverb -- both fully adjustable and both sitting inside the tape path, so the whole thing breathes together.

Birds, stream & vinyl
Blend in real recordings -- morning birds, running water, and the dust of an old record -- under the music. Set the weather of the piece with three knobs.

Locks to your session
Per-lane level, pan and live VU meters, plus a Sync button that follows your DAW's tempo and transport. Drop it on a track and it scores underneath everything else.
