Parish Audio says that the Gain Knob, a free VST3 plugin for Mac or Windows, gives you a quick, reliable way to adjust signal level anywhere in your processing chain. A spokesperson told us, "Use it to trim a track before another plugin, compensate for level changes after processing, balance the left and right channels, check a mix in mono, or invert polarity when signals are not combining correctly."
Here's the story direct from Parish Audio...
Some of the most useful tools in a mix are also the simplest. You do not always need another compressor, EQ, or saturation stage. Sometimes a signal is just entering the next plugin too quietly, one side of a stereo recording feels unbalanced, or two microphones are losing impact when they play together.
Gain Knob is designed for those everyday situations. Place it anywhere in your signal chain and make the adjustment you need without adding color, character, or unnecessary processing. Turn a signal up before it reaches another plugin, reduce the level after an effect, or use it to keep comparisons fair when one processing chain is louder than another.
The large central gain control makes broad or precise level changes easy, while the input and output meters let you see exactly what is happening before and after the adjustment. This can be especially useful when gain staging a mix, troubleshooting unexpected level changes, or matching the loudness of processed and unprocessed signals.
For stereo material, the channel trim controls let you adjust the left and right sides together or independently. Keep them linked for normal stereo gain changes, or unlink them when a recording leans to one side and needs a small correction. It is a straightforward way to improve the balance of overheads, room microphones, keyboards, field recordings, and other stereo sources without reaching for a larger utility plugin.
The Mono control combines the left and right channels so you can quickly check how a track or mix holds together in mono. This can reveal disappearing instruments, unstable stereo effects, excessive width, and other phase-related problems that may not be obvious during normal stereo playback.
Phase Invert reverses the polarity of the signal, helping you test and correct situations where multiple recordings are working against each other. It can restore weight and clarity when combining microphones, layered recordings, parallel processing, or any signals that sound thinner together than they do separately.
Gain Knob is not intended to change the personality of your audio. It simply gives you the practical controls you regularly need, presented in a clear interface that is easy to place anywhere in a session. When something in the signal chain needs to be louder, quieter, narrower, better balanced, or checked for phase problems, Gain Knob helps you handle it and keep moving.
