All-Analogue Performance Mixer

Union Audio has announced AREA.6, which they describe as a new 6-channel analogue performance mixer designed for Eurorack and desktop live setups. They say that, created by audio engineer Andy Rigby Jones, AREA.6 brings hands-on, musical control to live electronic performance through a fully analogue signal path and performance-focused feature set.

Andy Rigby Jones, told us, "area.6 is about feel and control in a live context. It's designed to let performers shape their sound instinctively and experimentally, without getting in the way of the music."

Positioned for artists working across modular and hybrid rigs, AREA.6 combines Union Audio's traditional analogue mixer design with carefully considered essential creative tools, to provide artists with super high audio quality output that can be shaped, balanced and mixed in new and intuitive ways, live or in the studio.

Key features include:

FULLY ANALOGUE - 6 CHANNELS
INSERT, 2X AUX SEND, 2X STEREO RETURN
CV CONTROL FOR LEVEL, AUX & PAN
TILT EQ
FILTER

• Has five controls, Frequency, Resonance, Filter select (HPF/LPF) Drive, and Aux send
• Filter offers both High-Pass and Low-Pass filtering with adjustable resonance.
• Frequency sweep range HPF, 30Hz to 10kHz
• Frequency sweep range LPF, 20kHz to 30Hz
• Filter On/Off is soft-switched to minimise audio disturbance when operating. 
• The Drive control progressively clips the audio signal resulting in very significant harmonics.
• The output from the Filter can be routed to the Aux 1 mix buss.
• Filter CV in ranges from 0V to +5V which will sweep the filter across its full range.

 

COMPRESSOR

• Has three controls, Ratio, Threshold and Gain.
• The compressor uses peak detection.
• Gain range is +/- 20dB, Centre detent is Unity
• Threshold range from -30dB to +10dB
• Ratio control from fully CCW to centre = 1:1 to approximately 5:1. From centre to 3 o-clock, compression starts to go negative but with a proportion of the dry signal mixed in.  From 3 o-clock to fully CW the Dry signal is combined with negative compression offering parallel-compression. 
• Compressor CV out ranges from +5V (no Compression) to 0V (full Compression)
