Drum Machine With 19 Synthesis Engines

US Okay Synthesizer releases Bingo      24/04/26

Okay Synthesizer describes Bingo as a drum machine plugin where every voice is a full synthesizer. They say that you pick from 19 drum synth engines per voice, run each one through its own FX chain, and sequence everything on a 64-step sequencer with parameter locks -- any knob, any value, on any step. They are also releasing Okay Distortion, a free plug-in. A spokesperson told us, "It started as a module inside Bingo that people wouldn't stop talking about, so we pulled it out and gave it away. Six distortion engines in a reorderable chain, a feedback path."  Here's the details direct from the company...

Most drum plugins are sample players with a sequencer bolted on. Bingo is synthesis-first: sounds come from DSP engines the team built when they were still writing Eurorack firmware. Samples are supported too though, and there's a granular sampler for serious mangling -- but the point is you don't need them. Every sound in Bingo can be built from scratch.

The voices cover the full range: a bunch of kick drums, voices from Mutable Instruments Plaits-based DSP; hi-hats with metallic resonator synthesis; and a synth category that includes a TB-303 engine, FM synthesis, Karplus-Strong string synthesis, and more. The drum machine can write basslines. It can play chords. It can do everything a drum machine shouldn't need to do.

The sequencer
64-step sequencer with per-step parameter locks. Every knob -- pitch, filter, distortion, reverb, anything -- can be a different value on every step. 8 LFOs and 8 macros per kit. Ratcheting, probability, swing, humanize, clock dividers, variable track lengths. The master FX chain is sequenceable too. It's the Elektron workflow: not just a pattern, but a living thing that changes every bar.
