LØSTLVLS Portastudio Sample Pack

LØSTLVLS has a new sample pack out which is kind of a love letter to the TASCAM Portastudio 424 MkII.  a 4 track cassette system from the late 1990s which was one of the last of its kind before digital recorders took over.

Those of us who cut their teeth on recording with the Portastudio range will remember fondly (or not) the sound of recording to cassette, where four tracks of audio were spread across the full width of the tape - I say full width, but its actually only 3.81 millimeters wide which makes each track less than a millimeter. To combat this, these machines ran at a higher speed and used various kinds of Noise Reduction (Dolby dbx in this case). 

For the last few months, LØSTLVLS has been obsessively recording various sources back and forth, experimenting with preamp and pitch settings to bring us his new Sample Pack.

Everything was recorded through the Portastudio's colourful preamps and/or onto quality Type II High Bias Chrome cassettes, then back into the digital realm through high-quality preamps.

Alongside lots of one-shots you will find loops (drums, bass, ambiences and textures), waveforms (looping tones), multi-sampled drum kits for the Elektron Tonverk (and files which can be used in any multi-sampler), drum kits for the Ableton Move, Teenage Engineering's OP-1/Field and OP-XY, sample chains for use in various samplers such as (but not limited to) the Elektron Octatrack and Digitakt series, and finally an Ableton Live project containing Drum Racks (one-shots and multi-samples) and Instrument Racks for the waveforms) set up and ready to go with effects mapped to multiple macros.
