Stryde Audio tells us that Swayed is modeled after a famous 1989 synthesizer that combined FM synthesis with sample based synthesis. 

A spokesperson had this to say, "This combination allows for the creation of some unique timbres--from realistic to synthetic, and everything in between. Patch compatibility means you can access the vast library of sounds made for the original hardware, in the form of SysEx files that can be imported. Patches made with Swayed can also be loaded into the original hardware by exporting them as SysEx files."
