Great Discord Servers for Synth Nerds: DivKid

I'm a big fan of Discord. I feel that the IRC-adjacent social media platform is fantastic for both retro and synthesizer enthusiasts. A number of Discord servers (community groups, essentially) offer a warm welcome, niche humour and technical discourse to really get your teeth into. I'll be writing about the servers I engage with regularly and hopefully, your suggestions will also become a part of this series.

Ben (who is one of the nicest people to share a train with) has a long-running YouTube channel that centres around modular synthesis, guitar pedals and creative effects processing. His Discord server is open to all Patreons https://www.patreon.com/c/DivKid/ and it's well worth the price of admission.

Highlights of this server include, amongst many other things:

  • A Question of the Day, on some aspect of modular music making.
  • A thread to ask the community for advice or ideas.
  • A DIY corner for freshly-built contraptions.
  • A 3-module challenge.
  • A dedicated thread for wellness - this is a community that cares.

Anyhow, if that sounds good to you, or you'd like to support Ben's work, head over to his Patreon page. If you actually haven't seen a DivKid video before, then I've linked his latest below, too.
