LSPXPO 2026: The Monk Project Generative Sequencer

US Large format generative MIDI monster      22/03/26

We spoke to Nick from TheMonkProject.com who gave us a tour of his generative sequencer at the LSPXPO 2026. With its striking array of blinky lights, the sequencer communicates with users visually over 16 channels with about 30 different sequencing models.
Nick explained that the machine could operate in the style of traditional step or piano roll sequencers, but its true capabilities lay in its generative features, such as patterns inspired by planets, particles, and mathematical sequences.

The interfacing possibilities were vast, as the sequencer connected exclusively via MIDI. Nick also mentioned that the unit could send sequences to a DAW, creating what he called a "theory stripe" to facilitate MIDI data manipulation. Additionally, features like the Markov chain sequencer added further depth to the compositions. Future developments could include a version with CV and gate connectivity.
