BaF 26: Korg Berlin Phase8 With the Team

Team members from Korg Berlin, namely Tats, Lukas, Samantha, and Rachel who were showing the first commercial release from Korg Berlin, the research and development centre, set up by Tatsuya Takahashi (Tats)  and the team, to explore new concepts in music technology.

They were showing the Phase8, a unique electro-mechanical instrument which employs electromagnetic fields to excite steel resonators, which, unlike traditional solenoids, vibrate to create music.

Rachel explained the user-friendly design, akin to familiar Korg interfaces which Tats has been responsible in the past, which combines switchable resonators and a sequencer that enables custom scale creation. Lukas shed light on the electronics, where a coil induces vibrations through the resonators. Performance features include an eight-step sequencer for each resonator, allowing polymetric sequences.

Additionally, connectivity options like MIDI and USB MIDI make Phase A compatible with other setups, complemented by a CV input for further integration. It certainly is something new and will available soon.
